Abstract
This research examines productivity growth of agricultural cooperatives using the Malmquist productivity index (MI) under constant returns to scale and the biennial Malmquist productivity index (BMI) assuming variable returns to scale. A nonparametric data envelopment analysis approach is used to calculate both the MI and BMI. Results from the two methods are compared to evaluate whether the decomposition into technical and efficiency changes
are similar under the MI and BMI methods.
