Abstract
The paper explores the concept of sustainable intensification of agriculture as a tool of stimulating
EU`s farmers towards land management changes which contribute to more sustainable agricultural and
protection of natural resources. The author argues that EU agriculture must implement a new agriculture
production paradigm that will integrate production objectives with environmental protection standards
much stronger than it has been so far. In this context the paper examines the latest CAP reforms and
implementation mechanisms adopted by the Member States concluding that they too far insufficient to
respond to the challenges.
