Abstract

-------------- The entry into the European Union will affect the economy of Hungary in several respects. One of the most important problems is inflation. Fortunately the trends in this field can be forecast on the basis of an analysis of the period when Portugal and Spain entered into the European Union. Their figures indicate that there will be no significant change in the present trend of inflation in Hungary either, i. e. it will continue to decrease also in the near future. This does not mean, however, that inflation in this country will be in the neighbourhood of the analogous European figures: some difference between the first and the second will exist for a long period of time. The analysis of the prices of agricultural products permits of making the same conclusion also in that field. The trends of their changes will be more predictable, and any shocking changes will possibly disappear when the agricultural market of Hungary becomes part of that of Europe.
