Abstract

The aim of the study was to analyse the changes in the Polish foreign trade of ornamental plants since 2005, after a full year of membership in the EU. The direction and dynamics of changes in export and import, the structure of assortment and trade balance, both in terms of value and quantity, were studied. The changes and relationships between import and export prices were analyzed, as well. Studies have shown a steady increase in turnover, faster in imports in value terms, while exports in quantity terms, with a negative trade balance. Poland is a growing net importer mainly of fresh cut flowers, pot plants and flower bulbs. However the importance of nursery plants increases in import, which are also the basis for Polish exports. Poland sells more and more of them, but at ever lower prices. In the case of other plant groups an increase in export prices is observed, but they are still lower than in imports. / Synopsis.
