ARE HOUSEHOLD PRODUCTION DECISIONS COOPERATIVE? EVIDENCE ON MIGRATION AND MILK SALES FROM NORTHERN KENYA

Among the Gabra of Northern Kenya, men decide where to migrate with the household herds while women decide whether to sell milk. We test three models of household decision-making. The results suggest that household decisions are contested. Husbands appear to use migration decisions to resist their wive's access to income.
