Abstract

The state of rural social infrastructure and its impact on the quality of life and functioning of rural communities are traditionally seen as marginal to the “mainstream” development activities. The low quality of social infrastructure is, however, an important factor in the marginalization of rural areas. In the period 2007-2013 there is a possibility to implement thousands of projects related to rural social infrastructure. The main question is: in view of the large financial scope of the projects implemented from EU funds, will there be enough commitment and common sense to ensure appropriate impact on social capital?
