Abstract

To manage a forest is to administrate the acquiring of economical, social and environmental benefits, respecting the mechanisms of sustainability of the ecosystem. The goal of this article is to identify the stages that compose the Forest Sustainable Management and the development of an operational plan for execution of the management. The methodology is based in the bibliographic revision and the rising of data about rural property in the State of the Mato Grosso. The first phase establishes the characteristics and data collection required to set the Annual Operational Plan (POA) objectives of the project. In a second phase was defined the methodology to identify the area of the project, the land demarcation of the permanent part, demarcations of tracks in the forest, the trees seeds, and the area of forbidden cutting and/or protected by law and the remaining trees. In a third phase there is the calculation form used in the forest inventory (a hundred percent), calculation of the commercial volume, method of cubage of the sample units and the factor of volume conversion. In a fourth phase the work security methods that include work in open sky, collective protection, equipments of collective protection (EPI), infrastructure of the camp: water resources, bedroom; bathroom; dining hall; sewer and garbage. In the fifth phase it is discussed the forest exploration with the cutting of trees: recommendations for the cutting of the trees having in mind the security of the operator that will do the cutting, the silvicultural factors and the techniques of cutting. It is still shown the planning of the exploration, definition of the exploration system, secondary or internal tracks, the trails, the stockpiling patio or shipyards. The exploration map shows the dragging and the loading of the logs, the tracking of the forest exploration, the maintenance of the existent trees in the Permanent Areas of Preservation (APP's), the protection of the forbidden species that are forbidden to be cut and of the door seeds trees. And in the sixth and last phase, the tracking shows the execution of the diagnosed inventory of exploration evaluation, continuous inventory, protection system, protection of the forbidden species of cutting and door-seed trees and the protection against fires. The article concludes that the recommended methodological procedures and the suggested phases permit to management the forest in a sustainable way.
